Itinerary

01:

Cusco - Tinki

We will leave your hotel in private transportation to begin our adventure to the village of Tinki (4,000 masl) taking the southern route from the city of Cusco, passing through the district of Urcos. We will arrive at the community of Muñapata (3,188 m.); from here, we will ascend the road to Puerto Maldonado. We will cross mountains and enjoy a landscape surrounded by beautiful mountains and snow-capped peaks, and a spectacular view of the city of Cusco. Along the way, we will have a glimpse of local communities, where people still preserve their traditional dress and traditions inherited from their ancestors, such as the Local Community of Ccatca (3,700 m). Continuing the trip we will pass through villages, where people still preserve their traditional dress and the customs of their ancestors. Finally we will arrive at Tinki, where we will camp, having witnessed unforgettable views of the Vilcanota mountain range during this stretch.

02:

Tinki – Upis

After a delicious breakfast, we will begin our hike to Upis camp (4,400 masl). During we will have a view of the ecological site of Quinsapucyu and the mountain of Warmisaya, until we reach the Upis camp where we will have lunch, tour the area, the mystique of its thermal lagoons and the uniqueness of its glaciers. All this environment surrounds the Apu Ausangate.

Hiking hours: 6 to 7 hours.
Minimum altitude: 4000 masl.
Maximum Altitude: 4400 masl.
Camp altitude: 4400 masl.

03:

Upis - Pukacocha

At dawn, after breakfast, we will begin our hike and ascend through a ravine covered with rocks, mosses and lichens until we reach the Arapa Pass (4,958 m), from where we will observe the stone forest, and at the top the Nevado de Ausangate and the chain of mountains that accompany it. In the afternoon we will make a descent until we reach our camping area near the Pukacocha lagoon (4,510 m), which is an attractive water reservoir for irrigation, next to the Blanco bridge; its builders have called it “nocturnal”.

04:

Pukacocha - Qampa

After enjoying a delicious breakfast we will ascend to the pass called Apacheta (4855m) an area full of natural vegetation. Then we will make a descent to have lunch near the other lake called Ausangate Cocha (4680m). After lunch and a short rest, we will make an ascent to the third pass. This is the highest of our entire trip and is called Abra de Palomani (5200m). Here we will be able to observe gigantic snow-capped mountains. Then we will descend to the area of Pampacancha (4,500m) from where we will observe more clearly and in all its magnitude the snow-capped Ausangate and the Vilcanota mountain range. In the afternoon, we will head to our campsite in the Qampa valley (4,650 m). In this place, the fauna is varied with condors, chinchillas, and herds of vicuñas that walk quietly.

05:

Qampa - Qomercocha - Pachaspata

We will start the day with a delicious breakfast, we will hike observing the beautiful glaciers that belong to the snowy Qolque Cruz, all these parts of beautiful landscapes that we can enjoy. This last pass is covered by small stone towers built by the villagers called “apachetas”. When we descend we will make our camp on the shores of the “green lake” Qomercocha (4,580 m), considered by the Andean priests as a place with a lot of energy.

06:

Pachaspata - Pacchanta - Cusco

After enjoying breakfast, we will begin our hike visiting more lagoons that shine due to their crystalline waters and beautiful vegetation that accompanies them. Continuing our hike we will visit meadows and meet several villagers with their llamas and alpacas; then, we will arrive at the village of Pacchanta (4,300 m). Here we can take a bath in the hot springs which is a place to visit and relax the muscles after 5 days of trekking. Here we will have lunch and then we will take the private transportation that will take us back to the city of Cusco.

How to get to Ausangate trek 6 days (Tinqui) from Cusco?

The hike begins in a small village Tinqui (sometimes written Tinki), 100 km from Cusco. It is very easy to get there by public bus from Cusco.
