Our trip starts from the city of Cusco. After traveling 145 km of paved road and 10 km of paved road, arriving first to the town of Cachorra, where the road to our desired destination begins with about 32 km. Overview

Choquequirao trek trek 4 days

To start the trek to Choquequirao, the last refuge of the Incas, we leave early in the morning in a private transport from Cusco, heading to the district of San Pedro de Cachora. We take the main road from Cusco to Abancay, with a detour at Ramal, where we take a dirt road for 16 km to the village of Cachora, while accompanied by a beautiful panorama of landscapes.

San Pedro de Cachora has a varied climate, characterized by a rainy season from November to March and a clear, dry season from April to October. Cachora is located at 2903m above sea level, with impressive views of the landscape, highlighting the nearby snow-capped peak “Padreyoc”.

The views are very inspiring and breathtaking as we travel through an amazing variety of ecological zones, from the cultivated valleys of the Andes, down through an arid and hot canyon with Capoc, Cactus and Agave trees, and up through a region of lush rainforest, under the towering snow-capped peaks of the Vilcabamba mountain range.

From the town of Chiquisqa, the road to Choquequirao descends steeply to the bottom of the Apurimac canyon to 1500m, where Playa Rosalina is located. From there we begin our ascent to the Inca City.

We arrive at Rosalina Beach at 1550m, 19km from Cachora with its banks bathed by the torrential Apurimac River. A suspension bridge crosses to the other side, where the trail continues its perpetual ascent.

The small villages we will pass through are Santa Rosa where we can enjoy the “Cambrai”, a delicious marinated drink made with sugar cane, and then to Marapata, near Choquequirao. From there we walk about an hour and 30 minutes to our campsite in Choquequirao, where we will spend the night.

Itinerary

01:

Cusco - Cachora - Chiquisqa

Our departure from Cusco starts at 6:00 am heading to the village of Cachora (3100 masl) at approx. 10:00 am from here we will continue accompanied by porters and pack horses, it is here where we begin our hike, on the way we will enjoy the view of the snowy Padrayoc (5, 482 masl) and Wayna Cachora, In the pass of Capuliyoc (2900 masl) we will take a short break, from where we will enjoy a panoramic view of the Apurimac Valley, and then descend and appreciate the beautiful landscape with a warm climate to Chiquisqa (1930 masl) where we will have our first camp. (Lunch and Dinner).

02:

Chiquisqa - Rosalina Beach - Sunchupata

After breakfast (5:00 am), we will continue our hike to Rosalina Beach (1550 masl), then we will climb the slope towards Santa Rosa (2100 m) where we will rest to enjoy lunch, then we will climb to Maranpata (2850 masl), then we will walk a straight stretch towards Sunchupata, where we will camp and have our dinner (Breakfast, Lunch and Dinner).

03:

Sunchupata - Choquequirao - Chiquisqa

At dawn after enjoying our breakfast we will go to Choquequirao and appreciate the sunrise, we will visit the Citadel for three hours accompanied by our guide who will explain the importance of the Inca archaeological complex and the importance of the Apurimac and Rio Blanco rivers, also appreciate the mountain range of Vilcabamba, then returning to Sunchupata begin to descend to Santa Rosa, then descend to Playa Rosalina, then continue to the town of Chiquisqa where we will camp. (Breakfast, lunch and dinner).

04:

Chiquisqa - Capuliyoc - Cachora

After enjoying a delicious breakfast in Chiquisqa (06:00 a.m.), we will return by the same road to the pass of Capuliyoc, from here we will continue two hours more to the town of Cachora, arriving at 12: 00 pm approx. on the way we will appreciate exotic places of flora and fauna, as well as mountains, snow-capped mountains and the impressive Apurimac Canyon , then continue to the city of Cusco. Arriving in the afternoon to the hotel.
